What We're Solving

Fresh Food Belongs in Every Box We Give

Shelf-stable staples keep cupboards from going empty, but diets built only on cans leave families short on vitamins, fiber, and the simple pleasure of a crisp apple or a bag of greens.

In rural Chester County, fresh produce is often expensive, seasonal, or a long drive away. Food-insecure households stretch dollars toward calories that last — and fresh fruit and vegetables are the first items cut from the cart.

Our Fresh Produce Initiative partners with local farms to move surplus and affordable harvest into our distribution programs, so neighbors receive food that is nourishing, familiar, and good enough for anyone's table.

Our Approach

How Your Gift Becomes Farm-Fresh Meals

We work with three partner farms that supply seasonal produce to Charity Food Ministry. Volunteers sort, wash, and portion crates at 669 Charity Road under the direction of Program Director Sandra Johnson, then move produce into Family Food Boxes, Mobile Pantry stops, Senior Deliveries, and Wednesday hot meals.

Together we move more than 2,000 pounds of fresh produce each month. Your $20 gift covers one produce crate — enough to brighten dozens of household bags in a single distribution week.

  • $20 provides one produce crate for distribution programs
  • 3 partner farms supplying seasonal fruits and vegetables
  • 2,000+ pounds of fresh produce distributed monthly
  • Shared across programs — boxes, pantry, seniors, and hot meals

Volunteer Coordinator Linda Parker schedules sorting crews so harvest never sits too long, and Executive Director Antonio Davidson negotiates fair purchase and donation agreements that sustain farm partners year after year.

My kids used to think apples were for school only. Now they come home from distribution with greens and peaches, and we cook like we used to when money was less tight.
